Electrical Control Engineer I

Syncom Space Services, Inc. (S3) is seeking an entry level Electrical Control Engineer to join our Test Design Engineering team at NASA John C. Stennis Space Center.  The ideal candidate will perform complex Electrical Control Designs, develops, troubleshoots, and analyzes software programs for computer-based systems at John C. Stennis Space Center (SSC) as well as provide technical support in compliance with current electrical industry and site standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Plans, designs, develops, installs, activates, operates, modifies and evaluates control systems hardware equipment, software, or processes.
  • Designs, plans, and oversees installation, activation, and operations of controls equipment, components and circuits for new and existing products.
  • Prepares plans and specifications for construction packages using design software and in conjunction with other project team members.
  • Provide Test Operations support with developing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and performing procedures to verify functionality of control systems, sequencers, and control system components.
  • Develops design proposals and estimated cost of construction for completed designs.
  • Assists in the review of vendor/contractor submittals and Requests for Information (RFIs) to bring product design from engineering phase to completed construction.
  • Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other organizations and engineering disciplines.
  • Must comply with all applicable safety and health related policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and report the status of all current design projects.
  • Conduct site visits with designers/drafters and other engineers to field verify as-builts, research site conditions, and develop project design strategies.
  • Understanding of standard control systems operations, development, testing, validation, safety standards, and concepts such as remote valve controls, safety and operational interlocks.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in controls, computer, software, electrical, or industrial engineering from an ABET accredited university.
  • Experience with using Allen Bradley controls software and Wonderware InTouch Visualization Software is a plus.
  • Experience in start-up and installation of data acquisition system.
  • Experience in working in Hazard Rated Areas, Class I, Division II, and Group B.

  

Requirements:

  • Must be able to provide a certified Birth Certificate (with state seal), Passport, or INS Citizenship documents on date of hire.
  • Must have the ability to communicate the English language, both verbally and written, in an effective manner.
  • Must have, and maintain, a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to pass a Pre-Employment background check and drug screen test.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, and professional personal appearance.
  • Ensure quality and completeness of work in a safe and timely manner as well as insuring areas worked are clean, neat and ready for customer needs when complete.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Prior knowledge of a NASA site or experience with working on government installations preferred.
  • Must possess exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Organizational skills to balance and prioritize work.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Utilizes resourcefulness in researching various documents and databases, as well as gathering various types of information or other resources.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 70 and NFPA 70E.
  • Ability to coordinate and manage multiple project activities simultaneously.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Windchill, and SKM is a plus.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to present to large groups.

 

Physical Requirements

  •  Dexterity to operate office equipment, and ability to access field locations as required by the position.
