 Purpose of the Position                                                                                                             

  • Provides Engineering support for complex Mechanical systems, equipment, and components at John C. Stennis Space Center (SSC) 
  • Plans and provides oversight of the installation, repair, and maintenance of complex Mechanical systems, equipment, and components.
  • Defines requirements and specifications for Mechanical components and selects appropriate components based on reliability, performance, and configuration.
  • Conducts validation, verification, and qualification testing.
  • Provides support as appropriate for troubleshooting and isolation of Mechanical faults. Recommends resolution(s) for same.
  • Ensures Mechanical designs comply with required specifications, installation criteria, and Safety standards, and are implemented with consideration to system configuration and operational requirements.
  • Works with Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) Engineer and NASA personnel to support RCM best practices.
  • Participates in reviews with various Government agencies and Contractors.

 Duties and Responsibilities                                                                                                     

  • Plans and provides oversight of the installation, repair, and maintenance of complex Mechanical systems, equipment, and components.
  • Defines requirements and specifications for Mechanical components and selects appropriate components based on reliability, performance, and configuration.
  • Conducts validation, verification, and qualification testing.
  • Provides support as appropriate for troubleshooting and isolation of Mechanical faults. Recommends resolution(s) for same.
  • Ensures Mechanical designs comply with required specifications, installation criteria, and Safety standards, and are implemented with consideration to system configuration and operational requirements.
  • Works with Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) Engineer and NASA personnel to support RCM best practices.
  • Participates in reviews with various Government agencies and Contractors.
  • Reviews vendor/Contractor capabilities and recommends product specifications and component selection.
  • Writes and issues Work Authorization documents (WADS) and Statements of Work (SOWs) for use by Technicians and Contractors.
  • Ensures proper and timely completion of all job tasks.
  • Performs related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates.

 Qualifications

  • Must pass Company and NASA required background check and be eligible to obtain a NASA security badge.
  • Bachelor’s Degree Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and analysis of complex Mechanical systems.
  • Experience with Government Contracts.
  • Experience writing Technical documents.
  • Experience in the oversight of Technicians and Contractors.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive material and communications.

Working Conditions                                                                                                                 

  • Physical effort involving standing, sitting, walking, or detail work.
  • Occasional risk of injury due to hazards.
  • Able to lift and carry fifty (50) pounds.
  • Dexterity to operate office equipment as required by the position.
  • Bending, stooping, and walking.
  • Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as needed (steel toe shoes, safety glasses, hardhat, and gloves).
  • Knowledge of Mechanical drawings, blueprints, and Technical specification documents.
  • Knowledge of Mechanical systems to include valves, pumps, vacuum systems, hydraulic systems, cryogenic systems, and other Mechanical components and devices.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting and fault isolation.
  • Skilled in the writing of Work Instructions, Scopes of Work, and other Technical documents.
  • Skilled in the reading and interpretation of Contractual documents.
  • Proficient in standard business office software.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to think independently and handle multiple projects through to completion.

 

 Physical Requirements

  • Prior knowledge of NASA site, experienced with working on government installations preferred.

 Other Requirements                                                                                                               

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen in order to obtain required NASA badge.
  • Must be able to provide a certified Birth Certificate (with state seal), Passport, or INS Citizenship documents on date of hire (candidate will be sent home if this paperwork is not provided upon arrival on date of hire).
  • Must have the ability to communicate the English language, both verbally and written, in an effective manner.
  • Must pass a Pre-Employment background check and drug screen test.
  • Clean, neat, and professional personal appearance.
